Overview
Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (KWRI) is a towered military airfield in Wrightstown, New Jersey, roughly 28 nautical miles from the metro area it serves. As a private-use joint base, it supports Air Force, Army, and Navy tenant operations alongside a long runway system capable of handling the largest military transports. Civilian and business aviation access is governed entirely by prior-permission and coordination requirements rather than open FBO-style service.
Mc Guire Field (joint Base Mc Guire Dix Lakehurst) has two paved runways. The longest, 06/24, is 11,451 ft long and 150 ft wide, with an asphalt and concrete surface.

Mc Guire Field (joint Base Mc Guire Dix Lakehurst) has published operating constraints in three categories: access, runway notes and other notes.
A power line 45 feet high is located three-quarters of a mile from the approach end of runway 18.
Fluid: SP, Presair, LHOX, and LOX are available. De-icing for C-5, KC-10, and 747 aircraft is limited to wing only, and requires three hours prior notice.
All transient aircraft require prior permission. Approval requests go through airfield management operations. PPR requests will not be accepted earlier than seven days before arrival, and must be submitted no later than 24 hours prior to arrival, or 48 hours prior for aircraft carrying dangerous or hazardous cargo. Aircrews with an approved PPR who deviate from the coordinated arrival time by more than one hour must notify airfield management operations as soon as possible. If no notification is received within one hour, the PPR will be terminated.
Restricted: during BASH Phase II, one-time departure and arrival authorization is permitted within plus or minus one hour of sunrise or sunset under real-time bird watch condition determination. Real-time bird watch condition can only be determined when field conditions are at least 3,000 feet visibility and 5 statute miles, and when the tower can visually confirm a bird watch condition less than severe. Takeoff and landing are not authorized unless approved by the 305th Operations Group Commander for the 305th Air Mobility Wing, or by the operations group commander or service equivalent for tenant units. Alfa Alert aircraft are exempt from this requirement. Waivers must be coordinated through the command post.
Remark: a 72-hour PPR is required for Army ramp use and landing at all locations on the Fort Dix Reservation.
The Army Support Activity ramp operates from 1230 to 2130 Zulu on weekdays. Weekend hours are available with prior approval. The facility is located on the southwest side of the airfield. A 72-hour PPR is required for Army ramp use and landing at all locations on the Fort Dix Reservation. Transient aircraft must contact Army operations prior to landing.
Restricted: transient aircraft requiring customs must coordinate with airfield management at the time of the PPR request.
The underruns of runway 06/24 are available for departure.
The first 1,000 feet of runway 06/24 is grooved concrete, with the remainder of the runway grooved asphalt. Runway 06/24 has a hardened, non-grooved overrun.
Runway 18/36 has only 200 feet of paved, non-grooved asphalt overrun; the remainder of the runway is not grooved.
Caution: runway 18/36 has landing zone markings at mid-field. Non-standard markings are present on runway 06/24 and runway 18/36 for assault landing zone operations.
The hardened overrun on runway 24 is available for emergency stoppage. The length of runway 06/24 between displaced thresholds is 10,014 feet. The distance from the yellow bar to the displaced threshold on runway 06 is 442 feet. Aircraft engines must pass the runway 06 yellow bar prior to takeoff. The first 431 feet of runway 36 is concrete, with the remaining 6,695 feet asphalt. 180-degree turns are restricted to the concrete portions of the runway only. See KWRI airport diagram for more information.
Service lighting: the runway 18 PAR and PAPI are not coincidental.
Runway condition codes are unavailable.
Service: airport of entry.
Transient alert service is available 24 hours a day, daily.
Restricted: all inbound passenger and cargo aircraft must contact the command post no later than 30 minutes prior to landing.
All classified material must be stored at the joint base command post. Airfield management has no classified storage capability.
Caution: non-standard markings are present on Victor Row for alert mission use, X-ray Row (primary), and Romeo Row (alternate) for combat offload operations.
The Army Support Activity ramp operates from 1230 to 2130 Zulu or later.
An AN/FMQ-19 automated observing system is in use, augmented by human observation as necessary during airfield hours. Visibility of the airfield is restricted from base weather operations along the northwest-southeast line during manual observation. Augmentation is provided by a weather forecaster. Weather service is available 24 hours a day. When the weather flight is closed, transient crews should contact the 15th Operational Weather Squadron at Scott Air Force Base, available 24 hours a day. During evacuation of the weather flight, crews should contact the 15th Operational Weather Squadron at the number above. Transient crews remaining overnight require a weather briefing prior to landing. Air traffic control will supplement observations as needed.

Yes, McGuire Field (KWRI) provides CBP inspection services onsite along with a USDA compliance agreement. Access is not open to general civilian traffic, however, since the field is a joint military installation with private use status. All transient aircraft require a PPR coordinated through airfield management operations before arrival. Customs coordination must be arranged with airfield management at the time the PPR request is submitted. Crews should not plan on walk-up customs processing given these prior-permission requirements.
Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, identified as KWRI, has two paved runways. Runway 06/24 is the longer of the pair at 11,451 feet, with a width of 150 feet and an asphalt-concrete surface. Runway 18/36 measures 7,126 feet long and is also 150 feet wide, surfaced in concrete. The first 1,000 feet of 06/24 is grooved concrete, with the remainder grooved asphalt, while 18/36 has non-grooved paved sections apart from its overrun.
Yes, every transient aircraft operating into KWRI requires a PPR approved through airfield management operations. Requests can be submitted no earlier than seven days before arrival and must be in no later than 24 hours prior, or 48 hours prior for aircraft carrying dangerous or hazardous cargo. Crews holding an approved PPR who deviate from their coordinated arrival time by more than one hour must notify airfield management operations as soon as possible. If no notification is received within an hour of the deviation, the PPR will be terminated.
Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst uses an AN / FMQ-19 automated observing system, augmented by human observation during airfield hours as needed. A weather forecaster provides augmentation, and weather service is available around the clock. Visibility observation from base weather operations is restricted along the northwest-southeast line during manual augmentation periods. When the weather flight is closed, transient crews are directed to contact the 15th Operational Weather Squadron at Scott Air Force Base. Transient crews remaining overnight are required to obtain a weather briefing before landing.
Business aviation traffic at KWRI, according to FAA TFMSC data, totaled 1,485 operations in 2025 out of 7,864 annual operations overall as cross-border traffic seen by the FAA. Monthly volumes show clear concentration in the spring and summer months, with July recording 175 operations and April recording 169. October stands out as a low point with only 10 operations recorded, a sharp drop from the surrounding months. Dispatchers planning arrivals or departures around McGuire Field should account for this uneven monthly distribution rather than assuming steady year-round volume.
