Frequently asked questions

Is customs clearance available at KYNG?

Youngstown / Warren Regional does not have onsite customs clearance. The nearest customs airport of entry is KCAK, located 40.32 nautical miles away. Crews planning an international arrival at KYNG need to route their clearance through that facility instead. Military aircrews should note that US Customs support is not immediately available on the field and must be pre-coordinated with airfield management at least 72 hours in advance. Civilian operators should build the KCAK routing into their trip planning well ahead of arrival.

What is the longest runway at KYNG?

The longest runway at Youngstown / Warren Regional (KYNG) is Runway 14/32, measuring 9003 feet long and 150 feet wide with an asphalt surface. A second paved runway, 05/23, is available at 5002 feet by 150 feet, also asphalt. A third strip, designated 143/323 and only 3501 feet by 60 feet, is restricted to military use as a landing zone. The mix gives KYNG substantial paved length for large business jet and military operations alongside a dedicated military-only surface.

Are there any approach lighting limitations at KYNG?

Yes, the PAPI visual glidepath indicators at Youngstown / Warren Regional (KYNG) carry defined usability limits. One system is unusable beyond 8 degrees left of centerline, and another is unusable beyond 8 degrees right of centerline. Crews flying visual approaches should stay within these lateral limits to maintain reliable glidepath guidance. Pilots planning an approach at KYNG should brief this restriction before arrival, particularly during circling or offset approach procedures.

What wildlife hazards are reported at KYNG?

Youngstown / Warren Regional reports both deer and bird hazards on the airfield. Military aircrews are directed to contact base operations for current bird watch conditions before operating. Under moderate bird watch conditions, takeoffs and landings are permitted only when departure and arrival routes avoid identified bird activity, with no local IFR or VFR pattern work. Under severe conditions, takeoffs and landings are prohibited without operations group or command approval. These restrictions apply specifically to military traffic at KYNG.

Does traffic at KYNG vary by season?

Yes, business aviation traffic at Youngstown / Warren Regional shows a seasonal pattern rather than an even monthly distribution. November recorded the highest monthly count at 336 operations, while February was the lowest at 203. Activity generally trends higher in the fall months and lower in mid-winter. Dispatchers scheduling trips through KYNG (Youngstown / Warren Regional) should account for this variation when estimating ramp and parking availability during peak months.
