Overview
Oceana NAS (Apollo Soucek Field), KNTU, is a private-use naval airfield in Virginia Beach, Virginia, built around four long paved runways and extensive fixed-wing jet training conducted jointly with Fentress NALF. FAA TFMSC data recorded 914 business aviation crossings in 2025 out of 24,048 total annual operations, reflecting the field's primary role in military flight training rather than civil traffic. Access for non-based aircraft is governed by prior permission requirements and fixed approach windows rather than by conventional FBO or ramp availability.
Oceana NAS (apollo Soucek Fld) Airport has four paved runways. The longest, 05R/23L, is 12,001 ft long and 200 ft wide, with a bituminous surface.

Oceana NAS (apollo Soucek Fld) Airport has published operating constraints in six categories: access, runway notes, emergency arresting systems, noise procedures, construction and other notes.
Fuel grade J5 is available. No fuel service is provided during a designated overnight window. Limited fuel service is available during two other windows due to restricted personnel. Transient hot pit fueling is available Monday through Friday during a set window with prior permission required, and is unavailable on weekends and holidays.
Traffic pattern: simultaneous landings and departures are conducted on parallel runways located 700 feet apart. Extensive jet training occurs between Oceana NAS and Fentress NALF. Reduced runway separation standards are in effect for USN/USMC aircraft. During peak periods, expect only one approach to full-stop landing.
Customs, agriculture, and immigration services are available for Oceana NAS-based tactical aircraft only, requiring 48 hours prior notice to Base Operations. Aircrew are required to remain in the aircraft until released by customs.
Hangar 145 and a revised ramp area extend from the southeast corner of the ramp, just south of the fuel pits, to approximately the end of the overruns.
Restricted: prior permission is required at least 48 hours before arrival for all non-Oceana based aircraft; contact was previously listed with a phone number now removed. Straight-in approach to full-stop landing only is permitted during a set window, with a different window on Sundays. The same applies vice versa for final landing only, with a different Sunday window.

During VMC, all departures and practice instrument approaches should fly the runway heading and not exceed 1,000 feet until past the departure end, due to extensive overhead traffic.
Traffic pattern break altitude is 1,500 feet. Simultaneous landings and departures are conducted on parallel runways located 700 feet apart.
Overrun surface for runways 23L and 23R is PEM.
Overrun surface for runways 32L and 32R is asphalt.
Overrun lengths are: Runway 05L, 1,002 feet; Runway 05R, 986 feet; Runway 14L, 999 feet; Runway 23L, 150 feet; Runway 23R, 151 feet; Runway 32L, 50 feet; Runway 32R, 50 feet.
Arresting gear: the arresting gear is normally rigged on all runways except that the inboard runway has shortfield arresting gear.
Noise abatement: strict compliance is required with the program outlined in the FLIP AP/1 supplement airport remarks.
Miscellaneous: huffer air start services are unavailable to transient aircraft. Use caution, as parasailing takes place along the coast from the NTU 350 radial to the NTU 160 radial, from the coastline out to 3 nautical miles, between the surface and 400 feet, during daylight and VMC conditions only, from April 1 until October 30. All surfaces are subject to work in progress with grass cutting along runways and taxiways.
Lighting is available only during hours of operation.
JASU units (NC-10C, NC-108, MSU-200) are available; contact the Air Operations Duty Officer to ensure availability.
LOX/LHOX fluid service is unavailable on weekends and holidays.
Oil service is unavailable.
Transient alert line service operates Monday through Friday during a set window, and Saturday, Sunday, and holidays during a different window. Parking and storage facilities are limited. Extensive delays in transient servicing can be expected during peak periods. JOSAC and NALO traffic have priority. No lavatory service or potable water is available.
Taxiway A3 is a feeder taxiway from Taxiway A to the ramp area, and is the first feeder taxiway south of the fuel pits.
Restricted: on Sundays, all fixed-wing and helicopter flights above 1,000 feet arriving or departing must file an IFR flight plan. The VFR/Special VFR helicopter route is mandatory for all helicopter flights at or below 1,000 feet.
Transient alert: no on-base or off-base transportation is available.
Remarks: all flight planning services have been consolidated with Naval Station Norfolk, Chambers Field. Flight plans should be faxed there, with a number now removed. Receipt of flight plans can be confirmed by calling the Naval Station Norfolk, Chambers Field Flight Planning Supervisor, with a number now removed.

Oceana NAS (Apollo Soucek Field), KNTU, is a private-use military airfield in Virginia Beach and is not available for general civilian operations. Civil aircraft require a Civil Aircraft Landing Permit (CALP), coordinated through the airfield manager, before any arrival is authorized. Prior permission is also required for all non-Oceana based aircraft, with a 48-hour advance notice standard. Straight-in approaches to a full-stop landing are the only approach type approved during specific published time windows, including a different schedule on Sundays. Dispatchers should treat KNTU as a restricted-access field rather than a public-use airport.
Oceana NAS (Apollo Soucek Field) has four paved runways, all with a PEM surface. The longest pair, 05R/23L, measures 12,001 feet by 200 feet, while 14L/32R and 05L/23R each run 8,000 to 8,001 feet with widths of 150 feet. A fourth runway, 14R/32L, is 8,000 feet long and 200 feet wide. Simultaneous landings and departures are conducted on parallel runways spaced 700 feet apart, supporting the extensive jet training conducted between Oceana NAS and Fentress NALF. Reduced runway separation standards apply for USN / USMC aircraft during these operations.
Oceana NAS (Apollo Soucek Field) does not host onsite customs clearance for transient business aircraft. The nearest customs facility is Norfolk International, KORF, located approximately 9.14 nautical miles away. Onsite customs and agriculture inspection at KNTU is limited strictly to Oceana-based tactical aircraft, requiring 48 hours prior notice to Base Operations. Aircrew on those flights must remain in the aircraft until released by customs personnel. Any other operator needing to clear customs should plan to route through KORF instead.
Fuel at Oceana NAS (Apollo Soucek Field) is listed as J5 grade, but service is restricted by schedule and staffing. No fuel service is available during a defined overnight window, and limited fuel service, constrained by personnel availability, is offered during two other windows. Transient hot pit fueling operates Monday through Friday during a set daytime window and requires prior permission, and it is unavailable on weekends and holidays. Oil service is unavailable altogether, and LOX / LHOX fluid service is also unavailable on weekends and holidays. Dispatchers should plan fuel needs around these gaps well in advance.
Oceana NAS (Apollo Soucek Field) publishes a caution for parasailing activity along the coastline from the airfield, extending from the coastline out to 3 nautical miles between the surface and 400 feet. This activity runs from April 1 through October 30, during daytime and VMC conditions only. Separately, transient alert line service and limited parking or storage facilities operate on a fixed weekday and weekend schedule, with extensive delays possible during peak periods. No lavatory service or potable water is available through transient alert. Flight planning for KNTU is coordinated entirely through Naval Station Norfolk, Chambers Field.
