Overview
Juneau International Airport (PAJN / JNU) serves as the primary gateway to Alaska's capital, situated along the Gastineau Channel with terrain that shapes nearly every aspect of approach and departure planning. CBP inspection services are available onsite, supporting international business aviation traffic into a market with no road connection to the rest of the state's highway system. Juneau International has published operating constraints in five categories: access, runway notes, environmental, pavement strength and other notes.
Prior permission is required 24 hours in advance for NG operations; contact NG Operations by phone. On weekdays between 0730 and 1600, contact NG Operations 10 minutes before landing on frequency 124.65.
The apron terminal ramp is closed to rotorcraft. The customs ramp apron is closed to aircraft with a wingspan greater than 79 feet. International rotorcraft must use the E-1 NG ramp.
When the airport traffic control tower is closed, pilots must activate the MALSF on runway 08 and the REIL on runway 26, along with the HIRL on runway 08/26, via CTAF. The VASI on runway 08 and the PAPI on runway 26 operate continuously.
The runway 26 PAPI is unusable beyond 2 nautical miles due to terrain.
Wildlife and birds are present on and in the vicinity of the airport.

Heavy helicopter and aircraft activity occurs from April 15 through October 1 along the full length of the Gastineau Channel and within 5 miles of it.
Paragliding activity occurs 3 miles north, in the vicinity of Thunder Mountain and over the Gastineau Channel near downtown, from April 15 through October 1, at 6,000 feet and below.
The traffic pattern altitude is 1,500 feet AGL for large turbine aircraft, 1,000 feet AGL for fixed-wing aircraft, and 500 feet AGL for helicopters.
