Overview
McNary Field, identified by the ICAO code KSLE, serves Salem, Oregon, roughly 41 nautical miles from the nearest major metro area. The airport is towered and handles a mix of fixed-wing and rotary-wing traffic, including a dedicated military ramp area with its own arrival and departure procedures. Business aviation accounts for the large majority of the airport's annual operations, drawing traffic from the surrounding Willamette Valley.
McNary Field has two paved runways. The longest, 13/31, is 5,811 ft long and 150 ft wide, with an asphalt surface.

Runways are listed longest first. Helipads and surfaces under 500 ft are excluded.

McNary Field has published operating constraints in six categories: access, runway notes, noise procedures, environmental, pavement strength and other notes.
Jet A is available after hours with prior permission required.
When the airport traffic control tower is closed, activate the MALSR on runway 31, the ODAL on runway 13, and the REIL on runways 13, 16, and 34, along with the HIRL on runway 13/31 and the MIRL on runway 16/34, via CTAF. The REIL on runway 16 and the PAPI on runways 16 and 34 are out of service indefinitely.
Rising terrain and trees lie west and south of the airport and along the runway 34 extended centerline. Trees also lie along the runway 16 extended centerline. Night operations are not recommended on either runway.
Air carrier operations use taxiway A, taxiway A1, taxiway A2, taxiway B, taxiway C from taxiway A to J, taxiway F from taxiway A to runway 31, and taxiway J.
Noise abatement procedures are in effect; avoid overflying residential areas.
Arranged transient operations run 1500-0030Z++ Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Transient prior permission is required; contact base operations for coordination. Transient aircraft alert service and parking are not available. Rotary-wing noise abatement procedures are in effect, and transient rotary-wing traffic should use the Santiam arrival and departure route. Arranged light aircraft passenger service uses the VIP pad at the south end of the military ramp. During duty hours, contact Guard Operations ten minutes out on the published frequencies. OSA operations should coordinate through base operations.
Bird hazard: waterfowl are present in the vicinity of the airport, and geese transit the Class D traffic pattern area from October through May.
PCR VALUE: 510/F/C/X/T
100LL is available self-service, 24 hours a day.
Taxiway A from taxiway L to L9 is not visible from the airport traffic control tower.
For clearance delivery, if unable to contact on the flight service station frequency, contact Seattle Air Route Traffic Control Center.
The airport closes after heavy snow. Airport conditions are unmonitored from 1600 to 0800 local time and on weekends.

KSLE, McNary Field, operates two paved runways for fixed-wing traffic. Runway 13/31 is the longer strip at 5,811 feet by 150 feet, surfaced in asphalt. Runway 16/34 measures 5,146 feet by 100 feet, also asphalt. A third paved surface, designated H1, is a 37-by-37-foot helicopter pad. Terrain and trees rise near the runway 34 extended centerline and along the runway 16 extended centerline, a factor operators should weigh when planning night arrivals or departures.
Jet A is available at McNary Field, but only after hours and on a prior permission required basis, per airport remarks. 100LL is offered as self-service around the clock. McNary Field, identified as KSLE, holds both fuel types in its published inventory, so flight planners should confirm the after-hours Jet A arrangement ahead of arrival rather than assume walk-up service. Coordination before landing is advisable for any Jet A uplift outside normal attended hours.
KSLE does not have customs processing on site. The nearest customs-equipped airport is Hillsboro Airport, KHIO, located about 38 nautical miles away. Operators arriving from international origins into McNary Field need to route their clearance through that facility rather than expecting on-field service. This distance should be factored into routing and fuel planning for any flight requiring customs on arrival.
McNary Field, KSLE, carries a published bird hazard remark for waterfowl in the vicinity of the airport. Geese specifically transit the Class D traffic pattern area between October and May. This seasonal pattern means crews operating in and out of KSLE during the fall through spring months should maintain heightened visual awareness during arrival and departure, particularly in the traffic pattern altitude band where the geese activity is noted.
Business aviation traffic at KSLE, McNary Field, is concentrated in the summer and early fall months. According to FAA TFMSC data covering 2025, September recorded the highest monthly figure at 370 operations, followed closely by August at 364 and June at 359. The lowest months were March at 243 and February at 244. Dispatchers scheduling flights into McNary Field should anticipate this higher summer-to-fall volume when planning ramp and slot availability.
