Pierre Regional Airport (KPIR) serves the South Dakota state capital with two long asphalt runways capable of handling a wide range of business aviation traffic. The airport is untowered and operates on an attendant schedule that covers extended daytime and evening hours seven days a week, with airfield conditions unmonitored overnight after the last scheduled arrival or departure. Both Jet A and 100LL fuel are available on the field.

KPIR, Pierre Regional Airport, has no on-site customs service according to the data. The nearest customs facility is KFSD, located approximately 160 nautical miles away. Crews requiring customs clearance should plan their routing through that airport instead. This distance is a factor for international arrivals that would otherwise expect a direct clearance at Pierre. Dispatchers should build the extra leg or coordination time into their planning accordingly.
Pierre Regional Airport operates two paved runways. Runway 13/31 measures 6,900 feet by 100 feet, and Runway 07/25 measures 6,880 feet by 100 feet, both with asphalt surfaces. Both runways are lit, with a MALSR system activated on Runway 31 and REIL on Runways 07, 13, and 25. PAPI guidance is available on all four runway ends. Note that there is no line of sight between the two ends of Runway 07/25.
Yes, Taxiway C at KPIR is restricted to aircraft weighing 75,000 pounds or less. The taxiway itself is 50 feet wide, which is the operational basis for this limit. Flight planners working with heavier business or cargo aircraft need to verify routing around this taxiway before filing a ground plan. This restriction is specific to Taxiway C and does not apply to the runways at Pierre Regional Airport.
Pierre Regional Airport maintains Class I, ARFF Index B coverage. This coverage is provided during scheduled air carrier operations. For unscheduled air carrier operations carrying more than 30 passenger seats, prior permission is required, with a 24-hour notice window before arrival. Operators planning such flights should contact airport operations in advance to arrange coverage rather than assuming it will be available on short notice.
Business aviation traffic at KPIR, Pierre Regional Airport, is concentrated in the fall, with October showing the highest monthly total at 949 operations in 2025, followed by November at 764. This is a marked increase over the spring and summer months, which generally range between 330 and 540 operations. Dispatchers scheduling flights into Pierre during this period should anticipate a busier ramp environment than the annual average would suggest. Traffic figures are drawn from FAA TFMSC data for 2025.
