Frequently asked questions

Is customs available on-site at KSWF?

New York Stewart International (KSWF) has CBP inspection services available on site, along with a USDA compliance agreement. This makes it a straightforward option for international arrivals into the New York area without needing to route through a separate customs airport. A user fee applies to all international flights, per airport remarks. Crews should still coordinate arrival details with airport operations given the mix of military, cargo, and general aviation traffic on the field. No nearby customs alternate is listed, since KSWF handles this function directly.

What is the longest runway at KSWF and what does it support?

The longest runway at New York Stewart International is 09/27, a paved asphalt surface measuring 11,817 feet by 150 feet. This length places KSWF among the longer public-use runways in the New York metro area, at roughly 46 nautical miles from the city center. A second paved runway, 16/34, adds 6,004 feet by 150 feet of additional capacity. Both runways support the airport's mixed military and civilian operations. The PCR value for the pavement is listed as 733/F / B/X / T.

Are there wingspan restrictions on taxiways at KSWF?

Yes, New York Stewart International (KSWF) restricts several taxiways by aircraft wingspan. Taxiways B and H are restricted to aircraft with a wingspan greater than 118 feet. Taxiway C is restricted to aircraft with a wingspan greater than 125 feet between the terminal building and Building 118. Aircraft with a wingspan of 172 feet or more require a vehicle escort for all Taxiway C operations south of the terminal apron, and crews should contact airport operations to arrange it.

Does KSWF have noise abatement procedures?

Noise abatement procedures are in effect at New York Stewart International (KSWF), and crews should contact the airport manager for specifics. Right traffic on Runways 16 and 27 may be used as part of these procedures. Separately, jet training is prohibited daily between 2300 and 0700. Operators should also note extensive glider activity 8 miles east of the HUO VORTAC within a 5-mile radius, which can affect traffic patterns in that area. These combined restrictions shape how flights are sequenced around KSWF at different times of day.

When does business aviation traffic peak at KSWF?

Business aviation traffic at New York Stewart International (KSWF) is concentrated in specific months rather than spread evenly through the year. May shows the highest monthly total among the reported figures, at 699 operations, according to FAA TFMSC data. October and November also show elevated activity, at 622 and 600 operations respectively. Winter months such as January and February show the lowest counts, in the 358 to 370 range. Total annual business aviation operations for 2025 stand at 6,065 against 12,205 total operations at the field.
