Noise procedures

Noise abatement procedures are in effect; contact Base Operations for details.

Environmental

Frequently asked questions

What kind of access does KNCA (New River MCAS / McCutcheon Field) have for civilian or transient aircraft?

KNCA, New River MCAS (McCutcheon Field), is a private-use military airport near Jacksonville, North Carolina, and it is not open to the general public. All transient aircraft require prior permission, requested at least 24 hours in advance through Base Operations. Any aircraft carrying passengers, cargo, or distinguished visitors must contact Base Operations 20 minutes before landing. The field is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, and remain-overnight parking requires coordination with the host unit.

What are the operating hours at New River MCAS (KNCA)?

New River MCAS, listed under ICAO code KNCA, operates Monday through Thursday from 1300 to 0600Z, and Friday from 1300 to 0000Z. The field is closed Saturday, Sunday, and on holidays. Runway lighting is available only during these published operating hours. Military aircraft may still operate outside published hours on a separate frequency, and pilot-controlled lighting can be activated on VHF 120.0 with a short delay before runway lights energize.

What runways are available at KNCA and what surface do they have?

KNCA, New River MCAS (McCutcheon Field), has two paved asphalt runways. Runway 05/23 is the longer of the two at 5,125 feet, matching the field's maximum paved runway length, with a width of 150 feet. Runway 01/19 measures 4,789 feet long and is also 150 feet wide. Both runways support lighting activation through the CTAF-linked pilot-controlled system, though threshold lights on runways 19 and 23 vary in their distance from the pavement edge.

Is there a customs facility at New River MCAS, and where is the nearest one?

New River MCAS (KNCA) does not have customs available onsite. The nearest customs facility is at KNKT, located approximately 29.93 nautical miles away. Operators needing to clear customs should plan their routing through that facility rather than expecting service at McCutcheon Field itself. Given the private, military nature of KNCA, any cross-border arrival planning should also account for the prior permission requirements and restricted operating schedule already in place at the field.

Does KNCA see seasonal variation in business aviation traffic, and when is it busiest?

Yes, business aviation traffic at KNCA, New River MCAS, shows a concentration during summer months based on FAA TFMSC data for 2025.
