Montana Army National Guard operations run 1400-0030Z++ Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Use caution while taxiing; the AASF ramp is not stressed for large aircraft. Ramp advisory is available on frequency 126.2. Transient service is not available after 2300Z++ Monday through Friday, or on weekends and holidays.
This is a cold temperature airport. Altitude correction is required at or below -16C.
Montana Army National Guard operations are based at Fort Harrison Army Airfield, within the Class D airspace. Contact Montana Army National Guard Operations for ramp advisory coordination.
For clearance delivery, if unable to contact on the FSS frequency, contact Salt Lake ARTCC.

Helena Regional Airport (KHLN) has CBP inspection services available on site. The airport also lists ADCUS flight notification service for advance customs notification. Because clearance is provided directly at the field, operators do not need to route through a separate customs airport of entry. Crews should still coordinate arrival timing with CBP through the standard notification process rather than assuming walk-up availability.
The longest runway at Helena Regional Airport is Runway 09/27, a 9,000 foot by 150 foot asphalt surface. This is the primary runway for larger business and commercial aircraft operating at KHLN. Part 121 and Part 380 scheduled and non-scheduled passenger operations above certain seat thresholds are restricted from the shorter crosswind runways, 05/23 and 17/35, which channels larger transport-category traffic toward 09/27. Pilots should plan on this runway for any operation involving heavier aircraft.
At Helena Regional Airport, Runway 05/23 and Runway 17/35 are not available for Part 121 or Part 380 scheduled passenger operations with more than 9 passenger seats, or non-scheduled passenger operations with more than 30 passenger seats. On Runway 05/23, Part 121/380 operations are excluded except between Taxiway F and Runway 9/27. On Runway 17/35, the same category of operations is excluded except between Taxiway F and Taxiway C. These limits apply specifically to larger passenger-carrying flights, not general aviation traffic.
When the control tower at Helena Regional Airport (KHLN) is closed, pilots activate airport lighting through CTAF. This includes MALSR on Runway 27, REIL on Runways 09, 17, and 35, PAPI on Runways 09 and 27, HIRL on Runway 09/27, and MIRL on Runways 05/23 and 17/35. Pilot-controlled activation lets arriving traffic set up approach and runway lighting without tower coordination outside staffed hours. Crews should confirm the correct CTAF frequency before relying on pilot-activated lighting.
Helena Regional Airport (KHLN) applies a landing fee for aircraft over 10,000 pounds. Separately, Montana Army National Guard operations at Fort Harrison Army Airfield, within the Class D airspace, run 1400-0030Z++ Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, with transient service not available after 2300Z++ on weekdays or on weekends and holidays. Pilots should use caution while taxiing near the AASF ramp, which is not stressed for large aircraft. Ramp advisory coordination during these hours is handled on a dedicated frequency.
