Whether you can land, whether you can refuel, and how customs works here.
Overview
Corpus Christi NAS (Truax Field), identified by the code KNGP, is a restricted-access military airfield on the Texas Gulf Coast near Corpus Christi. FAA TFMSC data for 2025 records 2,096 business aviation operations against a total of 14,438 annual operations, with the field supporting four paved runways including an 8,001-foot primary. Given its private use type and military customs procedures, operators should plan arrivals with airfield management well ahead of schedule rather than treating it as a standard civil transit stop.

Corpus Christi NAS (truax Fld) Airport has published operating constraints in four categories: access, runway notes, environmental and other notes.
All rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft landing or taxiing to the seawall require prior permission; contact Airfield Management.
Traffic pattern: transient aircraft should expect approach to full-stop landing only when single-runway operations are being conducted. Practice approaches are not authorized.
Rotary-wing aircraft destined for Corpus Christi Army Depot turn-in must remain at least a quarter nautical mile offshore and at 500 feet prior to contacting Navy Corpus Tower. Prior permission is required for all CCAD transient aircraft. Turn-in is accepted only during normal duty hours, 1300 to 2300Z, Monday through Friday.
Rotary-wing aircraft should make their approach to the helipad adjacent to Hangar 44, contact Operations on X-ray Charlie, and ground-taxi to and from parking. Point of contact is the Aviation Division at Hangar 44.
Miscellaneous: when the tower is closed, departing IFR aircraft must obtain an IFR clearance and release from San Angelo FSS prior to takeoff if the field is IFR, via ground link or by calling Corpus Christi Approach. If the field is VFR, a VFR departure is authorized.
Restricted: prior permission required 48 hours in advance for all transient aircraft, arranged through Airfield Management. For civilian aircraft landing permit information, contact Airfield Management.
Taxiway Y is open from the intersection of Runway 04/22 to the approach end of Runway 13R.
Fluid servicing (LOX) is available only with seven days' prior notice of the requirement.
Bearing strength for Runway 13L/31R: ST175, SBTT542, TRT585.
Caution: extensive runway test flights are conducted Monday through Saturday from the town of Port O'Connor to Mustang Beach Airport (KRAS), along the coast, between 300 and 5,000 feet.
Restricted: Runway 31L lead-off centerline markings at Taxiway Echo, right side, have been removed.
Caution: numerous birds in the vicinity of the airfield. Use extreme caution during heavy rain events.
Caution: bird activity and bird strike hazard; see AP-1.
Lighting is active from dusk to dawn. When the tower is closed, activate the pilot-controlled lighting on CTAF.
Closed Sundays from 1400 to 1800Z.
Caution: high mid-air collision potential, extreme vigilance required. Exercise extreme caution in the vicinity of Waldron Fld NALF, located 3 nautical miles south.
Traffic pattern: all aircraft must use landing or taxi lights while in the airport traffic area.
Service and transient alert: transient aircraft should expect delays from 0900 to 1400 local time due to limited refueling and servicing. Maintenance is extremely limited before 0900 local time, after 1400 local time, and during non-work hours.
Avoid flight over populated areas below 1,000 feet AGL prior to the Gulf shoreline.
JASU equipment: three MSU-200 and A/UA47A-5 units; MEPP includes two NC-8, three NC-10, and two AM32A-108 units.
Fluid: SP PRESAIR LOX LHOXRB.
Oil: MIL-PRF-23699 (NATO designation O-156) and MIL-PRF-7808 L Grade 3 (NATO designation O-148).
Restricted: refueling and transient alert arrangements are strongly recommended for all aircraft to avoid extensive servicing or turnaround delays, or parking in high FOD-risk areas.
Customs, agricultural, and immigration inspection are available for aircraft arriving from overseas. Plan arrival between 1400 and 2100Z and contact Airfield Management in advance. Pilots are required to provide an identa-plate number to the inspector for billing.
Avoid overflight of the building south of the ramp area and the ammunition dump east of the containment area.
All aircraft carrying weapons arriving at CCAD after normal duty hours must notify CCAD Security.
Major maintenance is available.
Loading and unloading of air cargo, military or civilian, designated for CCAD will be scheduled for daylight hours only.
Caution: if equipped, all aircraft shall use UHF ATC frequencies unless assigned VHF.
Restricted: aircraft arrivals and departures are prohibited for one hour prior to airfield opening due to airfield preparations, except for Customs and Border Protection. Mission-critical or other events requiring an exception must contact Airfield Management.
Miscellaneous: aircraft operating to the sea wall should use caution. Inbound helicopters should contact Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) Flight Operations on X-ray Charlie at 49.70, 139.0, or 339.7.
Remark: Airfield Management hours are 1230 to 0500Z Monday through Thursday and 1230 to 0100Z Friday. Closed Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.
The main parking apron from Taxiway A to Taxiway C is limited to TW4 aircraft only.

Customs and agricultural inspection services are available at Corpus Christi NAS (Truax Field) for aircraft arriving from overseas, but arrival must fall between 1400 and 2100Z. Pilots must coordinate this window in advance and provide an identa-plate number to the inspector for billing purposes. This is a restricted-access military airport, not a public port of entry, so this process differs from a standard civil customs arrangement. Operators should treat this as a scheduling requirement rather than an on-demand service. The nearest full civil customs facility is Corpus Christi International, about 12 nautical miles away.
Corpus Christi NAS (Truax Field) operates four paved runways: 13R/31L at 8,001 feet, 13L/31R and 18/36 both at roughly 5,002 feet, and 04/22 at 5,001 feet. Runway 13L/31R carries a published bearing strength of ST175, SBTT542, and TRT585. The primary runway, 13R/31L, is 200 feet wide with a porous European mix (PEM) surface. The other three runways are asphalt. Dispatchers planning heavier aircraft should reference the 13L/31R bearing strength figures directly rather than assume equivalence with the longer runway.
Transient aircraft at KNGP, also known as Corpus Christi NAS (Truax Field), should expect delays between 0900 and 1400 local time due to limited refueling and servicing capacity during that window. Maintenance support is extremely limited outside that window and during non-work hours entirely. The field strongly recommends arranging refueling and turnaround support in advance to avoid extended servicing delays or parking in high FOD-risk areas. Lavatory service is not available at this location. Fluid servicing for LOX-related items requires seven days' prior notice.
Corpus Christi NAS (Truax Field) requires prior permission for all transient aircraft, arranged 48 hours ahead through the airfield manager. Civilian aircraft need separate landing permit coordination through the same office. Arrivals and departures are prohibited during the hour before airfield opening for field preparations, with an exception for Customs and Border Protection operations. The Airfield Management office keeps hours from 1230 to 0500Z Monday through Thursday and 1230 to 0100Z on Friday, and is closed Saturday, Sunday, and holidays. Mission-critical exceptions require direct contact with the airfield manager.
Pilots operating at KNGP, or Corpus Christi NAS (Truax Field), face a documented high mid-air collision risk, with extreme vigilance required near Waldron Field NALF located 3 nautical miles south. Bird activity in the airfield vicinity is also flagged as a hazard, with extreme caution advised during heavy rain events when bird presence increases. All aircraft are required to use landing or taxi lights while within the airport traffic area to improve visibility to other traffic. Extensive runway test flights are also conducted Monday through Saturday along the coast between Port O'Connor and Mustang Beach Airport, from 300 to 5,000 feet.
